Building Your Sales Team

An unsuccessful sales team will not be able to sell the best of services or products, and accordingly, great sales teams are successful in selling less than first rate services and products.  So what makes a good sales team great?  Is it the sales training courses?  Perhaps, but what it begins with is the careful hiring of talented and motivated people that will be best suited for your company.  Some companies may be tempted to hire outside or off-site agents.

People that will represent the products of the various vendors, but having all of your sales people in house offers direct contact with your team.  You will play a more active role in the sales goals and the execution of your companies strategy.  When you hire and in-house team, they will be working for you and you alone, with your company’s products and services, and the selling of those as their goal.  An outside agent has many different vendors and companies that they are taking care of and as a consequence, they will not be as connected to you and your company as people who work directly with you would be.

Hire people who show an eagerness to learn, who are self confident and who love the idea of taking on a challenge.  These people will have great listening and communication skills, as well as being able to handle rejection.  Offer courses and seminars in business training and make clear your expectations and the goals of your company.  Some managers even draw up contracts, outlining those specific expectations, not only of what you expect from your sales team, but what they can expect from you, what your company will do for them.  The more training the better.  As a well trained sales team will be able to answer the questions of the customers and clients, thus furthering the progress of sales, and of your company.
